Before you apply

  • Confirm funds are available with LASAN
  • Get a camera inspection and keep the video
  • Read the contractor requirements on the LASAN page

Who can apply

  • Rate-paying property owners who pay the City’s sewer service charge.
  • Owners of residential, multifamily, commercial or industrial property.
  • The property must be in the City of Los Angeles sewer system. Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena and Culver City run their own systems. See who to call by city.

Renters do not apply. Ask the property owner.

How the repair rebate works, step by step

  1. Have a camera inspection of the lateral.
  2. If it shows damage, get written estimates and have the repair done by a contractor that meets LASAN’s requirements.
  3. Pay the contractor in full.
  4. Get the final permit signed by a City of Los Angeles inspector. It must be signed no more than 60 days before you submit the application.
  5. Apply through MyLA311. Search for “Sewer or Sidewalk Rebates” under New Request.

Documents LASAN asks for

  • The official LASAN application.
  • The contractor’s invoice with itemized materials and labor, the work date, the property address and proof of full payment.
  • The inspection video, showing the address at the start and the damage.
  • A camera inspection report describing the repairs.
  • The final permit signed by a City inspector.
  • Your most recent DWP bill and your APN (from the property tax bill).
  • A signed release and waiver of liability.
  • An IRS W-9, required only after approval.

Check the contractor requirements first

LASAN sets rules about which contractors qualify for the rebate. Read them on the LASAN rebate page and ask LASAN before work starts. If the contractor does not meet the requirements, the rebate can be denied even when the repair is good.

We are a referral service. Ask us what the plumber can provide for your rebate packet, and confirm with LASAN that it is enough.

How a camera inspection fits in

The camera comes first in every case. It shows where the damage is and gives the video the rebate needs. A report with the address on the video, the date and the condition of the pipe is the useful record. See sewer camera inspection.

Common mistakes that can cost you the rebate

  • Starting the repair before you confirm funds are available.
  • Waiting more than 60 days after the final permit to apply.
  • A video that does not show the address at the start.
  • Missing the proof of full payment.
  • Not keeping the invoice and permit.

When a rebate does not apply

The rebate pages describe repairs to damage found on camera, and camera inspections. They do not describe drain cleaning, so do not assume a jetting visit by itself is covered. If the problem is in the city main in the street, the City handles it. See who is responsible.

Common questions

How much is the LASAN sewer lateral rebate?

Up to $2,500 for a lateral repair and up to $300 for a camera inspection, according to LASAN’s rebate pages.

Is money available right now?

The pages do not say. Call 1-800-773-2489 or email San.SLRebates@lacity.org to confirm.

Do I apply before or after the work?

After. You pay for the work first, then apply with the invoice, video, report and permit.

Can a renter apply?

No. The rebate goes to the rate-paying property owner.

Does the rebate cover cleaning?

LASAN’s pages describe repairs after a camera shows damage. They do not describe cleaning, so confirm with LASAN before assuming a cleaning visit is covered.
