Hydro Jetting Guide for Los Angeles Property Owners

Short answer: hydro jetting cleans a pipe with pressurized water instead of just poking a hole through a clog. These guides explain when it helps, when a snake is enough, what it costs, how to tell if your pipe can take it, and what to do when a line backs up.

What hydro jetting is, in plain words

A hydro jetter is a pump, a hose and a nozzle. Water leaves the nozzle through several small jets. Some jets face backward and pull the hose forward, and the water scours the inside of the pipe. Public sources describe house lines worked at roughly 1,200 to 1,500 psi going in and lower pressure coming back, with higher pressure only on large mains (Oro Loma Sanitary District; Bonney Plumbing).

It is different from a snake, which bores a hole through the clog. See hydro jetting vs snaking.

When hydro jetting is a good fit

  • Grease or sludge in a kitchen or main line.
  • Roots in the pipe.
  • The same line clogs every few months.
  • Several drains are slow at once.
  • You want the line cleaned, not only opened.

When to be careful

On cracked, collapsed or very old fragile pipe, high pressure can do harm. A camera comes first. A trade article warns that cleaning tools can damage already flattened bituminous fiber pipe (PHCP Pros). See can hydro jetting damage pipes.

Common questions

What is hydro jetting?

A method that cleans a pipe with pressurized water from a nozzle on a hose.

Is it better than snaking?

For grease, roots and repeat clogs, usually. For a single simple clog, a snake can be enough.

Can it damage my pipes?

On sound pipe with the right pressure, it is a standard method. On cracked or very old pipe it can cause harm, so a camera check comes first.

How much does it cost?

Published market ranges are on the cost page. We give a written price before any work starts.
